{"id":5524,"date":"2010-10-24T09:12:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-24T07:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/89.46.67.206\/?p=5524"},"modified":"2013-09-24T00:13:22","modified_gmt":"2013-09-23T22:13:22","slug":"gioielli-di-semi-di-melone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/it\/2010\/10\/gioielli-di-semi-di-melone\/","title":{"rendered":"Melon seed jewelry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/melon-20necklaces_on-5B5-5D1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/melon-20necklaces_on_thumb-5B3-5D1.jpg\" width=\"370\" height=\"301\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>when i saw <a href=\"http:\/\/thelittletreasures.blogspot.com\/2010\/09\/melon-necklaces-organic-jewelery.html\">these necklaces<\/a>, it was love at first sight! i discovered <a href=\"http:\/\/thelittletreasures.blogspot.com\/\">maya\u2019s blog<\/a> (and the necklaces) thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/paneamoreecreativita.it\/blog\/2010\/09\/gioielli-fatti-di-semi-e-pigne\/\">linda\u2019s blog<\/a>. i told myself that i just HAD to give it a go myself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/melon-20seeds-5B5-5D1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/melon-20seeds_thumb-5B3-5D1.jpg\" width=\"362\" height=\"277\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit\u2019s quite simple: just remove the seeds from a melon (i used those melons that are yellow outside), wash them with some liquid soap or dish detergent and let them dry. then you color them however you want. i really liked the effect maya got coloring only half of each seed and leaving some uncolored. i also used some non-varnished wooden beads (some of which i colored). i wanted to repeat maya\u2019s effect with big wooden beads, but i couldn\u2019t find any around here. it\u2019s a shame because mine didn\u2019t come out as wonderful as hers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/melon-20necklaces_bracelet-5B6-5D1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cucicucicoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/melon-20necklaces_bracelet_thumb-5B4-5D1.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"271\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nto string them up, i used a needle and transparent thread (like a thin fishing line). then i thought that i could also make a bracelet which, in my opinion, looks quite nice without the big beads.<\/p>\n<p>maya wrote that in the past she used nail polish to color the seeds but, now that she doesn\u2019t have as much time on her hands, she uses markers. so i tried both ways. the orange ones are with nail polish and the purple ones with permanent marker (the much-loved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharpie.com\/ENUS\/Pages\/HomePage.aspx\">sharpies<\/a>). she\u2019s right; using markers you can go a LOT faster because you can color the seeds and beads all at once. with nail polish, on the other hand, you have to do one side, let it dry and then do the other side. i had to use tweezers to hold them while painting. painting these little beads was a total disaster because i couldn\u2019t hold onto them well enough, not even with tweezers. and then, after a while, the nail polish starts getting thick and stringy and very hard to use.
