Me-Made-May 2014: What I wore May 1-9

And here we are with the first installment of what I wore as part of my Me-Made-May 2014 pledge. To remind you, I challenged myself to wear at least one me-made (sewn, refashioned, embellished, knit, crocheted) garment per day. Last year’s pledge was the same, except that I’d included accessories, so I frequently would just wear a me-made necklace or something. This year I wanted to push myself further and make sure that I had actual clothing I made each day, which has been considerably harder so far this year, in part because the weather’s been so unseasonably rainy and cool, making me realize that I don’t have very many between-season me-made garments. So I must remedy that!

Somehow we got an incredibly sunny and warm day, so we brought our guest staying with us for a week to the island of Procida. Here we are on the beach of Chiaiolella.

As you can see from what I’m wearing, the weather was back to its chilly usual the next day.

I might’ve cheated here. This scarf is so big and puffy that I don’t really consider it quite an accessory. But I spent all day frantically finishing up sewing for the following day’s wedding, so I just threw on what was easiest and got to work.

This, too, might be sort of cheating, but I wore that thing all day for all parts of the wedding because I was pretty dang cold in my summery dress!

And here I am with the two flower girls in their dresses I sewed them.

Is it not absurd that I was dressed for summer the day before this?!

Last year I caught a boy in our condominium writing on the wall under a portico (the reason why it hasn’t gotten washed away over the past year) with sidewalk chalk I let him use. The first letter S is cut out of this picture. I think any Italian can imagine the naughty word that he insists he wasn’t actually going to write. Hmmm…

The wind was blowing, which is why I’m standing like that. You just can’t tell because short hair doesn’t blow in the wind.

Today’s Friday theme was blue, so I got in blue jeans, blue necklace, blue belt and blue and grey cardigan. Please pay no attention to my crazy hair sticking up in the back. I rushed to get my picture taken before my picture takers went off to work and school. It may not be long enough to blow in the wind, but it is long enough to get bed-head.

    • Aw, that’s so nice, Linda! Don’t be fooled, though; I tend to put extra effort into what I look like (except my hair– oops!) when I’m getting my picture taken!
