A wonderful thing about summer is being able to spend time gardening gorgeous flowers, delicious veggies and flavorful herbs. Well, at least you can if you have a garden! For those of us who live in an apartment, a few pots on the balcony and in the home have to suffice.

Today’s guest poster for the Cucicucicoo’s Eco Crafters and Sewers series is Cristina from Cri Erre Handmade. Cristina is an expert gardener, but also a lover of upcycling and organic foods. Today she will show us how to make a personalized flower pot from a simple tin can and a few other materials!

Cri Erre Handmade on Cucicucicoo's Eco Crafters and Sewers

How exciting, this is my first guest post and I’m celebrating it here with Lisa!!

My name is Cristina and my blog is Cri Erre Handmade, where I write about various topics. There’s a bit of everything that I love: recipes, advice on gardening and ecological/organic products that I use, quotes from the books that I read and lots of ideas and photo tutorials for upcycling. A little window into my world!

Today, with Lisa, I’ll show you how I upcycled salsa tin cans to create colorful flower pots. It’s a simple idea that lets you reuse objects that we already have at home, giving them new uses.

Materials:

  • Tin cans
  • Paintbrushes
  • Acrylic paint
  • Clear paint
  • Bits of magazine and other paper for decoupage
  • Craft glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: First remove the paper from around the tin can, as well as the glue. Soak the can in warm water with dish soap to get it off.

Step 2: Paint the can with your favorite acrylic paint. I painted two coats.

Step 3: Cut out images of flowers or anything else that you like from magazines or books, and glue them to the can. Then waterproof and protect the can by painting over it with transparent paint.

Step 4: All that’s left to do is to put a little plant inside of the can and smile and the final result!

Thank you, Lisa, for hosting me on her blog with lots of ideas, and remember that you can find lots of other projects on my blog, Cri Erre Handmade.
